So not the first time, and probably not the last time, but I was tricked by Janna once again. See, when we moved to Germany she said, “Let’s start a blog about our European travels! It will be so much fun to document our experiences so all of our family and friends can see what we’re up to!”

Note the key word up there: “Let’s”

As in: “let US”

Which I foolishly thought meant she would help write posts and upload photos. If you look at the post count carefully you’ll notice huge gaps within the last year. Guess who didn’t help write posts?

No names, but thank goodness for some WordPress magic because I have officially shut down the “Lausy European Tour” blog and merged it with this one. Hopefully, those huge gaps in blog posting love won’t happen again.

Korea – The Final Details

As I finish up my one year adventure in Korea and I look back at all I’ve seen and experienced, I am floored by how much beauty and culture there is in this small country. It’s amazing reflecting back on all that I’ve encountered in Korea and realizing that 365 days have flown by in no time at all. It’s just like the saying goes I guess, but it’s funny to me that the things I’ll treasure most about my time here are the small things. The palaces and huge markets were great, but it’s the details that make a place truly unique to me. The glisten off a freshly fried fish stick, running into people when I forgot to walk on the “correct” (left) side of the path, the smell of kimchi in the morning… ah, the details I’ll never forget! As I say goodbye here, my new adventure begins, but before I go, a few more details to commit to memory…

Janna’s Graduation

A few weeks ago I went home to see Janna graduate from San Jose State University (tear, tear… my baby’s all grown up now). Being the responsible photographer that I am, I brought all my gear home and was ready to shoot up a storm. Alas, I was outgunned and outmatched by Errol and my dad. It turned out all good anyway, the both of them did an amazing job documenting the events of the day. I just wish I would’ve known they would be taking care of business earlier, it would have saved me from carrying all that weight on my shoulder all day!

In any case, I’ve taken the best from the both of them and slapped it into a little slideshow. Check out Errol’s blog, Confession of a Nerdaholic (great blog name by the way), to see more shots from the day.

Happy Accidents

I bet like most people, you probably delete the ugly or messed up shots off your digital camera as soon as you take them. I’m definitely guilty of this too, but it’s actually not a good habit to pick up since you never know what you’re throwing away. (Plus, it’s not like digital “film” costs anything to shoot.) Tonight I was just browsing through my photo library and came across a few “happy accidents” that I missed the first time around. See, it pays to save!

I Must Be Nutz…

… either that or I have waaaay too much free time on my hands. Well, if you’re reading this then, “TA-DA!!” Introducing my new blog! After rebuilding my main site, I realized that my blog was looking a little dated (at least to me). There were colors and design aspects that looked a little out of place when you looked at both my main and my blog sites as two parts of the same entity. You gotta have consistency in your branding, know what I mean?

In any case, after another marathon design session, you’re now seeing the fruits of my labor in front of you. Make sure you check out the cool new menu bar up top. The “About” and “Contact” links activate cool drop down boxes saving precious screen space. Also check out the nifty banner, schweet! NERD ALERT: I’ve also got a new feature installed that helps the site come up faster by only loading the images you can see in your window. How nerdy and cool is that?!? Last, but not least, don’t miss the little orange RSS icon on the top right. You can subscribe to updates if you have an RSS reader (more nerd stuff, sorry) or you can just shoot me an email and I can put you on/off the email notification list too.

All I can say is thank goodness for 4-day weekends (don’t ask). Thanks for visiting!!

Cabin Fever

Fresh air… sun… sand… mountains… I think I’m getting cabin fever. It’s been too cold and gloomy for too long here in Korea. Staring at this photo doesn’t make it any easier.

Taken at Point Reyes on a backpacking trip a couple of years ago. Ah, the good ol days…

Who Needs Megapixels?

I was bored, tooling around in my Aperture picture vault when I came across this little gem. Not the sharpest thing in the world, but can you believe it was shot with my very first digicam almost nine years ago? I think I spent about $500 on a 2-megapixel Ricoh RDC-5300 (yes, that’s the same number of megapixels in the iPhone camera). Heck, nowadays you can buy a 10.2 megapixel Nikon D60 DSLR for less than that!

It’s amazing how fast technology marches forward…

The Dream Ride — Right Errol?

One of things I have to get done pretty soon is find my Kimchi Car (walking sucks big time). That’s what we call a cheap $500-1,000 ride that we can drive around without having to worry about it getting dinged up. And let me tell you, almost every car here is dinged up. I thought people in the Bay Area drove crazy, Koreans are nutz when it comes to driving. They never let you merge into their lane, people constantly run red lights (4-5 cars at a time), they hardly ever stop for pedestrians. I’d never drive a nice car around here if I cared about it.

Anyway, I promised Errol that I’d do my best to find and buy the car that’s near and dear to his heart… the Hyundai Sonata. (Ask him youself if you’re wondering why.) While I haven’t bought a car yet, the good news is that Hyundai Sonatas are EVERYWHERE here. Check out this fine specimen I spotted in my hotel parking lot:

Jamie’s Napa Farewell
